Julia Gustafson works collaboratively with a team of librarians in Research, Instruction, & Digital Scholarship to offer workshops, library/research-related instruction, individualized research help appointments, collection development and research support in her liaison areas, and digital projects development related to classroom work in her liaison departments/areas. She coordinates the library’s support of the First Year Seminar program. In addition, she seeks out and applies for traveling exhibitions and/or culturally-related grants, and coordinates and markets related programming for both the campus and the area community, frequently collaborating with multiple departments and individuals in the process.

Since she arrived in 1982, she undertook the following at different times: coordinated the library instruction program, oversaw the Libraries’ electronic services including the very early renditions of the library’s web site, participated as site coordinator of two Five Colleges of Ohio information literacy grants, coordinated access services for six years, and most recently transitioned into the work described above.

Recent Grants, Hosted Exhibitions, and Events Planned

2013: Awarded an NEH/Gilder Lehrman Institute “Bridging Cultures” initiative grant, “Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle.” Film screenings and hosted presentation/discussion events will be held Spring 2014 (planning in progress).

2013: Awarded an NEH/ALA grant Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys.” Collaborators: College of Wooster Center for Diversity and Inclusion, Office of Interfaith Campus Ministries, and the Religious Studies department. Held one event. Two more events planned November 2013.

2013: Arranged to be on the list of institutions hosting the NLM/NIH exhibit: Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, Magic, and Medicine for 6 weeks (2/11/2013 – 3/23/2013). Organized two events.

2011: Planned and coordinated programming in support of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum traveling exhibition, Fighting the Fires of Hate: America and the Nazi Book Burnings,” that was hosted in our library from 9/22/2013 – 11/17/2012.

2011: Awarded NEH/ALA grant to host the NEH traveling exhibition “Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War” at the College of Wooster Libraries from October 28 – December 18, 2015.

2008: Awarded College of Wooster Faculty Development Grant to participate in: “Intellectual Property in Academia Workshop Series” through the University of Maryland’s “Center for Intellectual Property in the Digital Environment.”
