Chemistry Club
Outreach
The Chemistry Club at The College of Wooster provides outreach
programs to elementary, middle, and high school students in the Wooster City School
District. These programs focus on age-appropriate demonstrations and
interactive activities in Chemistry. The Chemistry Club also assists
teachers in their science classes. For high school students,
the Chemistry Club is available to discuss the benefits of being a science
major at a small liberal arts college. Although the outreach programs will largely
promote being a science major, we also discuss the advantages of attending small
colleges.
Anyone interested in the outreach programs should contact Dr. Bonvallet.
He can be reacted by email at pbonvallet@wooster.edu or by phone at 330-263-2610.
PAST OUTREACH ACTIVITIES DURING THE 2004-05 ACADEMIC YEAR
October 20, 2004
Wooster High School
In celebration of National Chemistry Week, Chemistry Club members traveled to Wooster
High School to discuss isomers and enantiomers and how they relate to medicinal chemistry.
They also shared their experiences about being science majors at a small school.
October 17-23, 2004
National Chemistry Week
This year National Chemistry Week focused on the topic of Health and Wellness.
The Chemistry Club helped the College of Wooster to celebrate our favorite week
of the year by sponsoring a Chemistry Trivia Game. Challenging questions from various
areas of chemistry were complied and given to students. The student to answer the
most questions correctly and in the shortest amount of time will win a $20 gift certificate
to BW3s. Other students may receive fun Chemistry souvenirs.
October 27, 2004
Kean Elementary School
The Chemistry Club traveled to Kean Elementary School to perform an outreach program
with Mr. Veney’s 6th Grade Class. We did interactive demonstrations concerning
Health and Wellness.
We may also be setting up a regular outreach program schedule with the class.
