Selections from Homer’s Iliad, Allen Rogers Benner (foreword by Mark W.
Edwards)
Oxford Grammar of Classical Greek, James Morwood
Course Description: This course provides an intensive introduction to Homeric Greek and a thorough review of Attic grammar. As you will see, these are two very different entities, and tackling them together will demand the most of your critical faculties. This is in fact the reward of working in the Department of Classical Studies, which has set as its goal for GRK 200 a complete review of the grammar of classical Greek. Fortunately, we are blessed in this undertaking with the reliable texts of Benner and Morwood. ???ete t??? ??a??!
Course Requirements: There will be quizzes roughly every other week, a mid-term exam (10/13), and a final comprehensive exam (12/12). The grades break down as follows:
In-class work: preparation, participation,

You should expect to spend six to seven hours per week outside of class completing the translation, written work, and grammar. Attendance is expected, and there will penalties on the final grade for excessive absences: for each absence beyond two unexcused you will be docked a grade. In the case of an absence, excused or unexcused, you are responsible for making up the work from the missed class.
The Learning Center: Any student with a documented disability needing academic accommodation is requested to speak with Pam Rose, Director of the Learning Center (ext. 2595) and the instructor as early in the semester as possible. All discussions will remain confidential.

Academic integrity forms an essential part of the implicit contract between the student and the College.
