The Wooster Cricket Club The Wooster Cricket Club (WCC)is a student-run club organization at the College of Wooster. First started by college students in the early 1990s, the club plays matches against nearby colleges in the area, though it shares a healthy sporting relationship with Haverford College in Pennsylvania. The two colleges even fight it out for a trophy each year, the coveted Robert G. Wilder Cricket Trophy.Consisting primarily of South Asian students when initially formed, the past couple of years has seen the club's diversity multiply, with the 2002 team fielding a team consisting of Indian, Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi, Zimbabwean, British and American students. The average season consists of about 3 intercollegiate matches a semester, with the fall semester being the busiest in terms of such matches. The 2002 season, thus far, has seen four intercollegiate matches, one against Ohio Wesleyan University and three against Wittenberg University, as well as a match against the more professional Cleveland Cricket Club. This fall the club's schedule look much more planned out and thus more matches are scheduled for this semester. During the opening weekend of classes, Wooster took on Haverford College once again, looking to retain their title after three and a half years. The 'Fighting Scots' put on a determined fight and due to a superb bowling spell and batting display by Mustafa Naveed and Mohammad Chattha, respectively, the WCC secured victory by three wickets. |
