Abstract

Ray tracing algorithms are well known for their ability to produce photo-realistic images; incorporating environmental reflections, light refraction, shadows, and transparent and intersecting 3D objects. This study initially investigates the algorithmic properties of ray tracers using the Persistence of Vision Ray Tracer (PovRay) application. Many of PovRay's advanced features, such as height field generation, constructive solid geometric modeling, and frame animation are used to create an animated clip of a temple with an unusual fountain.
