"Boing! An Investigation of Soft Body Dynamics and Physically Based Modeling Using a Mass and Spring Paradigm"
Chris Abele 2002
Abstract
This thesis focuses on soft body dynamics using a mass and spring paradigm. A soft body is modeled as a set of particles having a point mass and that are interconnected through springs that adhere to Hooke's Laws. The behavior of a soft body as it reacts to forces such as gravity and friction is simulated using ordinary differential equations and Euler's Numerical Methods. The stability of Euler's methods are analyzed using an OpenGL simulation to compare the standard Euler method, The Euler Mid-Point method, and the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method.
