Kurt C. Holmes has been the Dean of Students at The College of Wooster
since July of 2001.
A 1988 graduate of Allegheny College, where he majored in economics
and wrote a senior thesis that focused on price sensitivity in the
college selection process, Holmes earned a master's degree in political
science from West Virginia University.
Immediately following his graduation from Allegheny, Holmes was
named assistant director of student activities at Washington and
Jefferson College in Washington, Pa., where he was responsible for
programming events for the students and implemented a new weekly
program to offer social alternatives on Saturday nights. In addition,
he served as an area coordinator at W&J and was responsible for
discipline, crisis intervention, and social and educational programming
in five residence halls with 400 residents.
In 1992, Holmes joined Davidson College as assistant director of
residence life and director of Greek affairs. In these dual capacities,
he had direct responsibility for all student staff supervision and
training for a residential life program that involves 1500 Davidson
students in 17 residence halls. He also worked with seven national
fraternities, three local sororities, and the Black Student Coalition
as Davidson's first ever "live-on" Greek adviser to the Greek council.
He implemented the college's alcohol policy, developed policies
regarding fraternity and sorority life, and was the liaison between
students and the college regarding Greek life on the Davidson campus.
Holmes was promoted to director of residence life in 1995 and to
associate dean of students in 1999. In this role, he has supervised
eight full-time staff members, a student staff numbering 70, four
conference assistants, and work-study students. He has been involved
in institutional enrollment management and has overseen Davidson's
summer conference housing while also directing summer projects and
renovations on the college's 17 residence halls.
A member of several national organizations, including the American
College Personnel Association and the American Association for Higher
Education, Holmes has made numerous presentations at national and
regional conferences and has developed training and leadership programs
at both Davidson and W&J. |
