Business Economics 227
Prof. John W. Sell
This project allows you to apply our classroom material to current
financial
issues. Fifteen percent of your course grade is based on your
performance
reviewing three articles from The Wall
Street
Journal, Economist,
Forbes,
Fortune, Barron's or Business
Week. Any recent article directly related to the course material
may
be reviewed. If you are in doubt about whether or not a particular
article
is appropriate for this project, ask and I will be happy to tell you.
Note that only one class member may
review a particular article. A sign-up sheet is provided
in our classroom for you to "reserve" your article. The sooner
you reserve, the more likely you are to obtain your first choice.
An acceptable review is an individually-written composition of no more than one typewritten single-spaced page which contains at least the following:
1. Your name.
2. An article citation, containing the title, author (if stated), publication, date, and page.
3. A summary of the article.
4. Comments concerning the specific relationship of the article to class material.
A photocopy of the article should be submitted with your paper.
In evaluating your review, special emphasis will be placed on item 4.
Reviews are to be completed throughout the semester with at least one review submitted in class by each of the following dates:
Tuesday, February 20, 2007
Thursday, March 29, 2007
Thursday, April 19, 2007
You may, if you wish, submit reviews earlier than the dates specified. If the appropriate number of reviews has not been submitted by a given date (two reviews prior to March 29, for example), a grade of zero will be assigned for each of the reviews that are missing at that time, whether or not all of the reviews are ultimately submitted.
