Applying for Admission
1. Which application is best for me?
The Admissions office has no preference between the Common Application and the SelectApp. When comparing the two applications, the SelectApp has fewer requirements for completion. The Common Application is accepted at many Colleges and Universities and must only be completed once for each college or university, whereas the SelectApp is accepted only at The College of Wooster. A prospective student only needs to complete one application.
2. What’s the difference between Early Decision, Early Action & Regular Decision?
All of these applications have different deadlines.
Early Decision is a binding agreement with an application deadline of November 15. Applying Early Decision is for students who have decided that Wooster is their first choice college, and once admitted they agree to remove all applications to other colleges or universities. Students who are admitted Early Decision are the first of the Freshman class to choose their classes. Early decision candidates are required to submit the Early Decision Agreement, found on the Common Application website, as well as all other application materials. Early Decision applicants must submit their $350 deposit check by January 1.
Early Action is for students who want to consider other college and universities, but have strong interest in Wooster. Early action applicants must apply by December 15 and will receive notification by January 15 and have until May 1 to make their college decision.
Regular Decision is Wooster's general application deadline, which is February 15. A student who is admitted Regular Decision has until May 1 to inform Admissions of their decision.
We encourage students to contact their Admissions Officer if they are unsure which avenue is best for them.
3. Does Wooster offer application fee waivers for any students?
Yes, all students who apply online receive an application fee waiver. Students who need to apply using a paper application and have financial hardship with the $40 application fee can have their guidance counselor submit an official College Board fee waiver or a letter requesting a fee waiver on their behalf.
4. My test scores are on my transcript. Can you consider those as official?
Yes, test scores that come from the testing service or are listed on your official high school transcript are acceptable. We cannot accept student reported scores as official.
5. Can my counselor fax you the necessary forms and recommendations?
Yes, we will accept faxes to 330-263-2621.
6. I re-took the ACT or SAT and scored higher. Will you consider these new test scores?
Yes, please do notify us if you receive higher test scores. We will need an official report either from the testing service or your school, but higher test scores could possibly result in an increase in merit-based aid in some cases.
