The College of Wooster men’s soccer team wrapped up its disappointing season with a 3-0 loss to North Coast Athletic Conference foe Denison University on Saturday at Granville, Ohio.
The Fighting Scots (4-10-2, 1-7-1 NCAC), who scored a dramatic win over Allegheny College earlier in the week, were unable to get on the scoreboard for the sixth time this season against the Big Red (10-4-3, 6-1-2 NCAC), despite nine shot attempts. Scott Buckwald and Justin Younker led the team with three shots apiece, and Davis Bates, who had scored in the team’s two previous contests, took two shots in the setback.
Denison took an early lead when Preston Wagner scored on a deep shot that slipped through the goalkeeper’s hands and into the net. Then in the 43rd minute, Chris Olson blasted in a score on an assist from Peter Shorten that put the Big Red ahead 2-0 heading into the break. Ish Ghodbane added an insurance goal at the 52:42 mark when he one-touched a Ben Peek pass into the lower left corner of the goal.
Goalkeeper Taylor Takacs recorded seven saves, which marks the seventh time this season he tallied seven or more in a match. He ends his sophomore campaign with 97 saves, 13 more than he made last season when he was named NCAC Newcomer of the Year.
