Program Overview
When it comes to success in cross country, Wooster is one of the best that the highly-competitive North Coast Athletic Conference has to offer. The Fighting Scots have combined for six NCAC team titles (two men, four women) and produced nine individual conference champions (six men, three women) since the league was formed in 1984.
Wooster’s impact is consistently felt at the NCAA Div. III regional and national level as well, annually in contention for top-10 showings among the Great Lakes area teams. Six men and 12 women harriers have competed for the Scots at the NCAA Championships, including five times during the 2000s (2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006).
In addition to training the student-athletes to reach their full potential on the course, the coaching staff is equally pleased with their annual accomplishments in the classroom. It has come to be a tradition that the women’s cross country finishes with the highest grade-point average of any of the teams on campus, and both squads are usually listed as an “All-Academic Team” by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association of America.
The Scots’ schedule typically features a series of six-to-eight meets with challenging courses and fields, including two on campus at the L.C. Boles Memorial Golf Course, all in preparation for the NCAC and NCAA Div. III Great Lakes Regional Championships.
