Program Overview
The Fighting Scots’ football program is in the midst of arguably its most impressive stretch of a storied 110-year history. Wooster has produced winning seasons 11 of the last 13 years, while often being ranked among the top-25 teams in NCAA Div. III, and the Scots are one of the top-three contenders for the North Coast Athletic Conference championship seemingly every season, taking it in 1997 and 2004.
Winning is just one goal, though, for the dedicated coaching staff as they take great pride in building the student-athlete’s character off-the-field as well. The coaches have developed a program they call Wooster Football’s Academic Game Plan to improve time management, organization, and study skills, and many players get involved in community service. Six were recognized by Sports Illustrated with a side-bar story and photo in its 2008 year-end issue for their volunteer work at Every Woman’s House, a local domestic violence shelter.
Wooster is a school rich in traditions, but none better than when the bagpipers, clad in their MacLeod Tartan plaid uniforms, lead the football team down a hillside and onto the field where the charged-up Fighting Scots sprint through two lines formed by the marching band and cheerleaders, and then mob each other in exuberance at midfield.
That’s just one example of what makes the game-day atmosphere second-to-none at 4,500-seat John P. Papp Stadium during the fall, and new in 2009 are a synthetic alternative to grass surface (Sprinturf) and lights, which were installed during the summer.

At 5-9 and between 180 and 200 pounds during his playing days, one might assume Jack Weisensell was a speedy running back or maybe a slot receiver, but no, those are the vitals of one of the top offensive linemen in The College of Wooster’s football history. Learn More »
