Reducing Energy Consumption Subcommitee

Departments

• The subcommittee met with representatives from Information Technology, Campus Grounds, and the Physical Plant to discuss their energy use and possible opportunities for energy use reductions. Each department was already mindful of the need to conserve energy and agreed to update us on possible future initiatives.
• Peter Schantz led a tour of the campus power plant on Monday, January 28, 2008.

Encouraging Action

• Members of the subcommittee worked with others on campus to organize events for Focus the Nation, a national initiative designed to focus attention on global climate change, on January 30, 2008.
• We provided information all week long in Lowry through displays.
• ETF hosted a panel discussion on the evening of the 30th, including Peter Schantz and Chuck Wagers as panel speakers and Susan Clayton as moderator.
• Reviving a popular action from the 2006-2007 school year, the subcommittee set February 2008 for a month-long campus competition among student residences to see who can reduce their energy use compared with last year's energy use figures.
