Study French in Quebec City at Universite Laval
- Learn French in a bilingual country right across the border where they specialize in
teaching French to native speakers of English
- Choose a suitable program of study, from intermediate to advanced, from the many programs
offered at the Ecole des langues of the Université Laval
- At the advanced level (beyond 216) study Québecois culture and literature
- Live in a French-Speaking household or in one of the kitchen-equipped résidences at the Université Laval
- Participate in a wide range of sociocultural and athletic activities organized by Laval students

Sweet Briar Junior Year in Paris
- A Junior-year program designed for students with sufficient prior training in French
(normally four semesters of 200-level courses or higher) to allow them to be enrolled in a French university as regular students
- Join past generations of students as alumni of the oldest coeducational intercollegiate program in Paris, founded in 1948
- Be part of a highly qualified student body drawn from liberal arts colleges throughout the nation
- Take courses in all disciplines with native French students at Paris III, IV, or VII; the Faculté
libre déconomie et de droit, the Ecole du Louvre, and other institutions of higher learning
in Paris (individual or group tutoring organized as needed for Sweet Briar students)
- Spend the first four weeks in an intensive orientation program in Tours in the heart of the châteaux country
- Stay with selected French families in both Tours and Paris (where you are guaranteed a single room)
- Use the museums and the theatres of Paris as your classrooms in special courses offered through the Sweet Briar Program

- A semester or full year program designed for sophomores or juniors with four-semesters or the equivalent of
college-level French (3.0 GPA)
- Study with 80-100 other students selected from the 140 colleges and universities that make up the IES consortium
- Take courses from native French professors at the IES Center, located on the rue Daguerre near Montparnasse
(one of the oldest market streets in Paris), in French language, art history, cinema, economics, French and Francophone
Studies, history, literature/theater, political science, and sociology
- Students who are sufficiently advanced may also take courses in the humanities or social sciences at the Université
de Paris III or VII and study music at the Ecole Normale de Musique or art at the Atelier Nicolas Poussin
- Stay in French homes located throughout the city; home stays include breakfast daily and 2-3 dinners a week
- Take part in walking tours of Paris, field trips to the Loire Valley châteaux, and a variety of cultural events
- Earn credit for internships, including English-language teaching assistantships in French schools

- A semester or full year program designed for sophomores or juniors with four-semesters or the equivalent of
college-level French (3.0 GPA)
- Study with 50-60 other students selected from the 140 colleges and universities that make up the IES consortium
- Study on the only American program located in the city, which means that English is rarely heard on the streets
- Enjoy living in the sixth largest city in France, located 30 miles from the Atlantic Ocean and 2 hours from Paris and
recently ranked among the top cities in France for quality of life
- Take courses from native French professors at the IES, which maintains a strict "French Only" policy, in French language,
art history, history, international business, literature/theater, political science, psychology, and sociology
- Students who are sufficiently advanced may also take courses at the Université de Nantes in literature, social science,
or science and math; courses are also available in business and music/music history
- Stay in French homes located throughout the city; home stays include breakfast daily and 5 additional meals a week
- Earn credit for teaching English in local collèges (junior high) or lycées (high school); additional
internship opportunities may also be available
- Enjoy field trips to the Mont Saint-Michel and the Muscadet vineyards

Dickinson in Toulouse
- A full year or spring semester program primarily designed for juniors who have four semesters or the equivalent
of college-level French
- Program overseen by a Dickinson professor who serves as resident director and on-site academic advisor
- Take advanced courses in French language, literature, and civilization taught by faculty from the Université
de Toulouse at the Dickinson Study Center
- Enroll in courses at the Université de Toulouse, the second largest university in France; the Institut Catholique
(history, religion, philosophy); the Institut détudes politiques (an international program selected by two former
Wooster students); the Conservatory of Music; or the Fine Arts School
- Participate in the popular internship program with placements available in business, marketing, public administration,
journalism, education, and other areas
- Stay with carefully selected families and be matched with a second family to experience local culture to the fullest
- Enjoy life in "la ville rose," Frances fourth-largest city, located in the heart of southwestern France and recently voted
the city outside Paris in which the French would most like to live
- Visit the sites of the regions, including the medieval city of Carcasonne, Romanesque churches, fortified villages, and prehistoric
caves with splendid artwork

Kalamazoo in Dakar, Senegal
- A program designed for juniors with a sufficient level of French to enroll as regular students at the Université
Cheikh Anta Diop, the oldest university in Francophone Africa, and with the personal maturity to function in a society very different
from that of the U.S.
- Preference given to students with a demonstrated interest (courses and co-curricular activities) in African Studies
- Although study options include a "long term" (mid-Sept. to Feb.) program, Wooster students who do not wish to lose a semester
of study should select the "extended term" program (mid-Sept. to May)
- Required courses include "Sustainable Development in Sénégal," "Histoire dIslam," Wolof, and the
"Integrative Cultural Research Project" (research project or unpaid internship) plus at least 3 credits in university electives
- Choose between a homestay (including all meals) or a university dormitory room in housing arranged by an on-site supervisor;
strict vegetarians may live in a house owned by Kalamazoo
- Run by a college whose study abroad programs were ranked #1 in the 2003 US News & World Report college rankings
- Live in one of Africas most cosmopolitan cities, often thought of as a melting pot of African culture, located just
minutes away from the Atlantic coast

- A semester , summer, or full year program of immersion into the French university system designed for students
with intermediate/advanced-intermediate proficiency (Option II) to advanced proficiency (Option III) in the French language
- Study intensive language and cultural studies at the IIEF of the Université Marc Bloch de Strasbourg with an international
student body (intermediate preparation) or take regular courses at the Université de Strasbourg in a variety of fields
(advanced preparation)
- Live with a French family (all breakfasts and evening weekday meals included) in Strasbourg or the immediate outskirts, directly
accessible by bus
- Live in the "carrefour de lEurope," the literal and geographical heart of an emergent integrated Europe, home of the Council
of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights
- Profit from the many cultural opportunities available in the city where Gutenburg set up his press and Mozart played the organ
- Widespread use of English both in the streets of the city and at the Syracuse University Center may make this a less appropriate choice
for French majors and minors than other programs; please consult your French professor
