The limestone cliff here was a shoreline approximately 5000 years ago. Bivalves and polychaetes bored into the calcium carbonate of the limestone, leaving a horizontal record of the ancient sealevel. This outcrop is near Lago Enriquillo in the southwestern Dominican Republic. (See another bioeroded rock substrate.)
