The Ordovician carbonate hardground fragment pictured here is dominated by a large trepostome bryozoan (Stigmatella). To the left of the bryozoan are small round holes. These holes are given the ichnogenus name Trypanites, and they are typical of Paleozoic bioerosion. This specimen is from the Grant Lake Limestone (Upper Ordovician) exposed near Washington, Kentucky. (Return to Geological History of Bioerosion page.)
