Dear Alumni and Friends:

It is always a pleasure to introduce the Annual Report from the Department of Geology at The College of Wooster.  Each time we write it we are reminded of how many friends we have, and how widely scattered and diverse they are.  We hope that this newsletter has found you well.

Once again we have an eventful year in the life of the Geology Department to describe.  Most important to us is that our “new” Administrative Coordinator, Patrice Reeder, has now completed a full year with us.  She is a wonderfully creative, efficient, always enthusiastic and hard-working colleague.  You will see how fortunate we are to have her as you read this report she wrote.

We are also lucky to have Brennan Jordan for another year as our mineralogist-petrologist, filling in for Lori Bettison-Varga as she fulfills her duties as the Faculty Grants Associate and the new Director of the Keck Geology Consortium.  Brennan has been a delightful and stimulating addition to our team with his new ideas and exciting field projects.

Our students continue to make us proud.  The seniors were scattered across the globe this summer pursuing their Senior Independent Study projects.  We had geology majors in Iceland, Israel, Alaska, The Bahamas, Utah, and Tennessee, and they all returned safely with lots of rocks (or wood in some cases!) and experiences they will always remember.  We again thank our various donors to the Wengerd and Danner Funds for making many of these trips possible.

Lynn Downes and Shirlyn Myers have been our dedicated custodians this year.  We are often complimented on the orderliness and cleanliness of Scovel Hall, especially by geologists who know what other geology buildings look like!  We thank Lynn and Shirlyn for their hard work and the pride they take in Scovel Hall.

Please note the Alumni Information Sheet at the back of this report.  We want to hear from you, as do your classmates and other friends in our geological community.  We wish you the best.

                                                                        Sincerely,
