This is a running list terms and acronyms that may help you track the never-ending series of acronyms and some concepts that may be new or presented in a new way. Wikipedia is a good place to look them up.

Wx = Weathering, as in weathering of rocks.
Rx = Rocks
NRG = Energy
CaSiO3 = Silicate Mineral Rock, what continental plates are made of.
SiO2 = Quartz
Flux = Movement of materials such as carbon or nitrogen from one part of the system/reservoir to the other.
Rivers
Trunk Stream = Main stream of a river.
Tributary = stream draining into trunk stream.
Confluence = Where two streams come together.
Discharge = Q = Cross-sectional area of stream * Stream Velocity
Stage = Height of stream's water level as measured by stream gauge.
Baseflow = Groundwater contribution to hydrograph/water system.
Proxy = Something that stands for something else. One could measure the distance between and the variation of tree rings within a cross-section to determine what in the climate (precipitation, drought, hot temperature, or other limiting factors) caused such a change.
Competance = Largest grainsize a stream can carry
Alluvium = Sediment carried in a stream. Any and all sizes of grains based on stream's competance and capacity.
Capacity = Volume of sediment a stream can carry.
Thalweg = Deepest rut that stream makes between banks.
Cut Bank = Bank from which sediment is removed.
Point Bar = Bank on which sediment is deposited.
Base Level = Lowest point to which a river can cut(usually bedrock).
Flood = When a river jumps its banks.
Hundred-Year Flood
Loess = Wind-Blown Silt
