Tornado Damages Wooster Trees

Tornado Tornado

The photos seen here reflect a small portion of the damage to the trees on campus as a result of an F-2 tornado passing from East to West through Wooster on Nov. 12, 2003.

Luckily no one was seriously injured. When viewing the trees blown around like matchsticks we become more aware how amazingly lucky we were to have avoided injuries.

On the campus proper we lost 26 large trees. The golf course sustained the most tree damage losing 55 trees in a 250 yard wide path. The tornado which passed through around 7 p.m. on Nov. 12th had winds exceeding 110 m.p.h.

Some of the trees were uprooted, some were snapped off and some were twisted mangled and disfigured. Cleanup began almost immediately and was completed within two weeks along with beginning the process of tree replacement. Since large trees cannot be replaced with same size trees parts of the campus will have a different look for many years.
