Hours & Appointments

When the College is in session, the Longbrake Student Wellness Center is open 24 hours a day. Appointments can be made, during specific hours, with a physician or nurse practitioner Monday through Friday. Students are evaluated continually on a walk-in basis by a registered nurse. After 4 p.m. and on weekends, a registered nurse is available in the Student Wellness Center to handle illnesses and emergencies, and to care for those students who are staying in the student rooms.

If a physician is needed after regular clinic hours, students can be evaluated, at the nurse's discretion, at the physician's office or at the local hospital emergency room. Counseling appointments are generally scheduled Monday through Friday. There is also a counselor on call at all times for emergencies.

For Student Insurance questions or problems, contact the medical secretary at the Student Wellness Center Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Services

The LSWC provides comprehensive health care to our full-time students during the academic year. All medical care received outside the Longbrake Student Wellness Center is the responsibility of the student. There are charges for certain lab and all x-ray studies done at the Cleveland Clinic Wooster or at Wooster Community Hospital. Free anonymous HIV testing is done at our Student Wellness Center four times a year. There is a small fee for some services such as non-school related physical exams, student immunizations and allergy shots (allergy serum provided by the student). Many over-the-counter medications are provided free to students. In stock prescription medications are prescribed for a small fee.

Several other services (some for a small fee) are offered for students during the academic year. These include massage therapy, eating concerns, peer education, and First Responder training.

If additional or specialized medical care is needed, especially after regular physician hours, students will be referred to the Cleveland Clinic Wooster. All medical care received outside the Longbrake Student Wellness Center is the responsibility of the student.

In an emergency, the student will be referred to the Wooster Community Hospital Emergency Room. All emergency room charges will be billed to the student. The student needs to submit the claims to their insurance coverage.

Confidentially is strictly observed at all times. Up to 10 counseling visits per academic year are free to all full-time College of Wooster students. Student Medical Records

Individual Health Records are maintained for all students who use the Student Wellness Center. Student records are kept for seven years after the student leaves The College of Wooster, and then are destroyed.

All medical records are kept strictly confidential, and are not released to anyone without the student's permission.

The Student Wellness Center staff does not write medical excuse notes to professors. With the student's permission, however, we will confirm (if specifically requested) an illness to a professor.
