| Requirements
for the Major and Minor in History Requirements
for the Major
History majors
must take a minimum of ten course credits, eight courses plus a
two-course Senior Independent Study (I.S.) thesis. The eight courses
must include History 401, the one-semester Junior Independent Study
and at least three other courses at the 200-level or above. No more
than two History 101 courses (Introduction to Historical Investigation)
may be counted toward the major.
These requirements
for history are very flexible; the major does not require a particular
sequence of courses or a distribution of courses. With this flexibility
in mind, students should construct their programs in consultation
with their advisers. Ideally, a student's course of study will include
at least one introductory-level course, three 200-hundred level
courses, and one 300-level course, and reflect a concentration in
a major chronological period or geographical area, as well as some
familiarity with a region or period outside that concentration.
Requirements
for the Minor
The minor in
History involves six courses in the department, including at least
three at the 200-level or higher. History 101 is recommended, but
no more than two History 101s may count toward the minor.
