Jr. Independent Study: Advice

Since Junior Independent Study is even more time restrictive than Senior I.S., it is important to slect a topic you already have some knowledge about and are able to develop quickly in the first three weeks of work. With all of the revision expected during the writing phase, it is great if you can move quickly from the research phase to the writing component. -- Barton Myers '03

Start early. And start writing early. There's just not as much time in a semester as you think. --Molly Moreland '03

Time goes very very quickly in junior I.S.-so work hard from the very beginning. Don't put I.S. off-make time for it every day. Try to get your chapters done as early as possible so you're advisor can read it and make comments-don't wait until the last week to hand a draft to him or her. --Jen Rodda '03
