The Wooster Ethic
I hereby join this community with a commitment to the Wooster Ethic upholding academic
and personal integrity and a culture of honesty and trust in all my academic
endeavors, social interactions, and official business of the College. I will submit only
my own original work, and respect others and their property. I will not support by my
actions or inactions the dishonest acts of others.
The Philosophy
Students, faculty, administrators and staff make up the College of Wooster community, and we have an obligation to broader civil responsibilities.
Our lives are defined by the choices we make. By joining the College of Wooster, we each indicate a willingness to make individual choices that build a cohesive community. As this community, we freely accept personal, academic and social responsibilities and hold ourselves and each other to the highest standards under the Wooster Ethic. The Wooster Ethic is grounded in the expectation that we will reflect upon how our choices affect not only ourselves but also others. Making mistakes is inevitable as we learn and mature. Therefore, the Wooster Ethic does not always speak to what we do. However, the Ethic does address what we do about our actions because they define who we are.
When someone violates the codes, the College of Wooster will not be punitive in its judgment but instead will be educational in its purpose. Students whose behavior clearly indicates that they disagree with this philosophy may be asked to leave this community for another more suited to their needs.
