DETAIL OF ADINKRA CLOTH

Adinkra cloth refers to cloth whose pieces have been joined together by strips of multicolored embroidery. It is then hand stamped with cultural and proverbial designs that have been carved from broken calabash. The "medicine" used in stamping is pounded and boiled tree bark found in the north of Ghana. This particular cloth would be worn on special occasions, such as weddings, festivals, or going to church.
