AT THE FEET OF HUS

This stature is a memorial to Jan Hus, a 15th century religious leader. Hus's ideas were similar to these voiced by Martin Luther 100 years later. Hus spoke against corruption in the Catholic church and believed that the Gospel should be preached in Czech instead of in German, which was the aristocratic language of the time. Hus was burned at the stake.
