Off-Campus Study Student Development and Adaptation Assessment
Pre-Departure Assessment
Congratulations! You are about to embark on an exciting and perhaps life-changing off-campus study experience. As you prepare for your time off campus, the IPO asks that you take a few minutes to fill out the following questionnaire. Our goals in asking you to complete this questionnaire are the following:
- To encourage you to begin thinking about how your experience can help you develop personally and academically.
- To supply feedback to the IPO and to The College of Wooster about off-campus study programs and how they encourage learning and development, and in turn to help us improve our services to you.
The questionnaire will first ask basic demographic information. Then, you will complete a self-assessment of your language ability and intercultural development. Finally, you will complete the Global Perspectives Inventory (GPI, Copyright © 2007 by www.gpinv.org). The GPI is a short survey of 46 statements that should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. This inventory is a part of a study conducted by Kelly Carter Merrill, Ph.D. of the University of Hawai‘i and others from different universities who are studying personal development.
The data gathered from this part of the assessment will not be associated with your name, and will be used by The College to help us improve our services to you and encourage intercultural and intrapersonal learning and development. There are no foreseeable risks involved in responding to this survey beyond those experienced in everyday life. By completing the GPI, you are agreeing to participate in research. You are free to stop responding at any time. Confidentiality will be maintained to the degree permitted by the technology used and to the extent allowed by law. No absolute guarantees can be made regarding the confidentiality of electronic data. You will not be identified in anything written about this study.
