Professor Siewert (Course Description)

Working bibliography

Objectives:

Historical context:

When Disneyland opened in southern California in 1955, its “Tomorrowland” offered a unique version of the world of the future. Florida’s Disney World, opened in 1971, had its own futuristic counterpart in Epcot. Since they premiered, these “worlds of tomorrow” have been revised and updated to reflect a changing conception of what the future holds. Also from their debut, the parks and Disney’s entertainment empire in general have been heaped with as much criticism as praise for their part in defining and marketing American culture.

The Disney bibliography constructed from this assignment will be one component of the 8-10 pp. research paper you will write in conjunction with the seminar’s unit on Disney. You will accomplish this project in stages, and we will look at other elements that constitute the scholarly research paper in subsequent workshops or classes.
