Media Library

Circulation | Course Reserves | Services | Facilities | Off-Campus Vendors

The Media Library consists of approximately 7,000 titles. The collection provides faculty members with educational media to support classroom instruction. The collection also provides students with non-book materials to support Independent Study and class research projects.

Monday - Thursday 8 a.m. - 1 a.m.

Circulation

Faculty may check out Media Library materials for a seven-day preview and classroom use period if the title is available. Students may check-out materials from our circulating collection. Students may only use the permanent and course reserves collections in the library. All College of Wooster media must be returned to the Media Library circulation desk.

CONSORT Borrowing Privileges

Faculty, staff, and students may borrow videos and DVDs through the CONSORT catalog for educational and research purposes.

  1. Search for the title through the CONSORT catalog.
  2. Click the "Request this Item" button in the top or bottom navigation bar.
  3. Enter your name and the barcode number from the back of your C.O.W. I.D. card to complete this request.
  4. The item will be processed and sent to The College of Wooster Libraries. This will take two to three working days.
  5. Faculty, staff, and students will be notified that the video has arrived by e-mail. The item will remain on the hold shelf at the Gault Library Circulation Desk for five days.
  6. Students and faculty may check the video out of the library for a classroom screening or preview for a seven-day period with no renewals.

OhioLINK Borrowing Privileges

Faculty, staff, and students may borrow videos and DVDs through the OhioLINK catalog for educational and research purposes.

  1. Search the OhioLINK central catalog.
  2. Click the "Request this Item" link in the record. Select College of Wooster as your institution.
  3. Enter your name and barcode number from the back of your C.O.W. I.D. card.
  4. The item will be processed and sent to The College of Wooster Libraries. This will take two to three working days.
  5. Faculty, staff, and students will be notified that the video has arrived by e-mail. The item will remain on the hold shelf at the Gault Library circulation desk for five days.
  6. Faculty, staff, and students may check the video out of the library for a seven-day period with no renewals.

Course Reserves

Faculty may reserve, in advance, any videotape or DVD for classroom support. In addition, faculty may contact the Media Library Manager to place videotapes and audiotapes, CDs, DVDs, slides, and CD-ROMs on Media Library Course Reserve for student use in the library.

The Media Library is unable to place videos and DVDs from CONSORT or OhioLINK on reserve. Due to copyright restrictions, the Media Library is also unable to place videos and DVDs from commercial rental establishments (Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, etc.) or "copied media" on reserve.

Services

Archival Videotapes

Archival masters of selected videotaped campus events will be housed in the Libraries' Special Collections Department. A patron may request a copy of the archival video through the Special Collections Department. Patrons should expect a maximum of two working days for processing the request. The copy will be available in the Media Library using the same patron circulation guidlines as other Media course reserve materials. Wooster Forum events will be videotaped by the Instructional Technology staff if written permission is granted by the speaker (s). One copy will be made from the archival master and become part of the Media course reserves for the fall semester.

Viewing/Listening

The Media Library provides the following facilities for individual and group viewing of and/or listening to the materials in the Media Library collection:

  • Individual viewing/listening stations for DVD, VHS, audio CD, and cassette tape playback.
  • Three screening rooms (Bechtel, Davis, and Nesbitt) which may be reserved for group viewing and/or listening.
  • Two rooms (Bechtel and Nesbitt) which may be use for on-demand small-group viewing and/or listening.
  • Portable DVD players for in library use. Please bring your own headphones.
  • DVD's, CD's, DVD-R's and CD-R's may be used in the McCreight Lab if you bring your own headphones.

Equipment for Loan

The Media Library has a limited pool of equipment for loan that may be borrowed by students, faculty, and staff for short term use. This equipment can also be reserved in advance by faculty and staff.

  • Contains the media collections, over 7,800 titles on VHS tape, DVD, audio cassette, audio CD
  • Media Library Assistants staff the Media Library Desk to provide reference assistance and to circulate materials from the collection
  • The desk is also where you check out keys for our studios and screening rooms

McCreight Learning Lab

  • 18 iMac computers
  • 1 instruction iMac Computer
  • Arranged in a perimeter design
  • Digital projector
  • 2 legacy multimedia workstations provide access to older multimedia CD-ROM titles
  • Available as an open computer lab when not in use for instruction

Viewing/Listening Lab

  • 7 viewing/listening stations support individual viewing and/or listening to materials on VHS, DVD, audio CD, and audio cassette
  • Group listening station

Bechtel Room

  • 20 seat capacity
  • Digital projector
  • VCR and DVD players with international converter for multi-region playback capability
  • Used for group viewing by reservation or on demand

Nesbit Room

  • 20 seat capacity
  • TV monitor
  • VCR and DVD playback
  • Used for group viewing by reservation or on demand

Davis Room

  • 40 seat capacity
  • Multimedia projection to large screen
  • VCR and DVD players with international converter for multi-region playback capability
  • One iMac instructor workstation
  • Used for group viewing by reservation only
