Course Development
The Lilly Project supports the development
of courses at Wooster that bring the topic of vocation into
all aspects of campus life, especially the classroom.
Faculty who become interested in the development
of a course that focuses on the theological exploration of vocation
are encouraged to apply for a mini-grant to cover the course
development and a course development stipend.
Charles Kammer, Chair of Wooster’s Department
of Religious Studies, developed “Vocation and the Professions” for
his department. The course focuses directly on the implications
of the concept of vocation for individuals entering professions
and for the professions themselves.
Thomas Tierney, Professor of Philosophy and
Director of Wooster’s Pre-Health Advising Program, intends
to develop – with the assistance of Dr. Kammer – an
inter-disciplinary course tentatively titled “Death and
Dying: Legal, Ethical, and Religious Perspectives.” The
course will focus on the implications of vocation on this aspect
of human life and how the concept of vocation impacts the work
of the judicial and health care systems. Professors Tierney
and Kammer will draw on the resources of Hospice of Wayne County
in developing and implementing the course.
