Spending time away from the intensity of the medical clinics
"Thank goodness for labor and delivery
- that's where I went after my stint in the ER, and the atmosphere
was much happier. I saw a c-section and played with some newborns,
even changing diapers. So I've seen lives at their extremes this
week, from neonate to anciano. So strange to think of the older,
very sick patients ever been the little babies in L&D..."
"Phung said something that really resonated. He said that
the trip was not what he expected. He expected to come down here
and give of his time and experience and help a few patients. But
instead of giving, he feels like everyone here - the clinic doctors,
Dr. Tenorio, and his homestay - were giving to him, teaching him
about medicine and Mexico and making this trip into a spiritual
experience. Maybe its cheesy, but I'm feeling the same way."
