Azimuth FAQs
How long should an Azimuth summer be?
We expect this to be the main focus of your summer taking, on average, 8-12
weeks. We realize that some students will have to juggle start and end dates
to accommodate returning from study abroad, RA training, athletics, etc.
I’m going to be studying abroad the semester before
the Azimuth summer. Can I still apply?
Yes. Make sure to mention your study abroad plans in your letter of intent.
We will schedule a phone interview with you while you are still in the United
States. It is your responsibility to make sure that the Committee knows the
date you will be leaving the U.S., and has contact information for you wherever
you will be between leaving campus for winter break and leaving the country.
Can I do an Azimuth in Canada or Mexico?
No, your project must be in the continental United States.
May I make a joint application with a friend?
No, the Azimuth is an individual experience.
May I apply if I am an international student?
Yes, but your project still must be in the continental United States and it
is your responsibility to make all arrangements with INS.
Can I make changes to my project after I receive the Azimuth?
We fund the person and the project. Because we evaluate the feasibility and
the appropriateness of the project for you, we cannot allow you to change
your project once it has been submitted. If you are awarded an Azimuth, however,
and discover compelling reasons to alter your project scope, you may contact
the Azimuth Committee for approval.
Can I make changes to my itinerary?
Yes, of course, but major changes must receive written permission from the
Azimuth Committee. Changes should, however, be true to the essence and focus
of the project.
Is the Azimuth taxable?
Only unused funds are taxable
What about health insurance?
Student health insurance runs August-August. If you were enrolled at Wooster
the semester prior to the Azimuth and are enrolled the semester after, you
should still be covered by the same insurance during the summer.
