Suggestions for More Effective Leadership

  • Let members know well in advance of meetings
  • Keep your advisor well informed
  • Have a well thought out agenda for meetings (Pre planning is crucial!)
  • Do not do all the talking. Involve Others. Members must get a good feeling out of their participation or they will not come back.
  • Do not be afraid to disagree, but do it tactfully. Encourage members to do the same.
  • Know what you want to acoomplish before you begin a task or meeting.
  • There are appropriate times to brainstorm and dream. There are also appropriate times to be realistic and practical. Know how to tell the difference.
  • Be sure to keep all members well informed. Evaluate the communication pattern of the organization and its effectiveness.
  • Be sure to get to know all members and help them get to know each other.
  • As a leader, be sure that positive thoughts are always around. If the members begin to feel negative vibes, they too, may become negative.
  • When delegating a task, be clear and specific about expectations of what should be completed.
  • Listen to and value other's opinions and thoughts.
  • Stop and evaluate everything the organization does. From these evaluations, programs can improve in the future.
  • Compliments jobs well done! Everyone needs a little recognition.
  • Whenever possible, make decisions as a group.
  • Remember, try and keep discussions on track during meetings.
  • Look ahead and anticipate programs or projects It gives more time for planning.
  • Make sure the organization understands its goals and objectives. This fosters a better work environment.
  • Learn what outside resources are available. DO NOT HESITATE TO USE THEM!
