Fundraising Activities

By College* Individuals, Groups, and Organizations

Solicitation off-campus in Wooster and Wayne County

Since the College's founding, the citizens of the city of Wooster and Wayne County have been consistently generous in supporting College programs and activities. Because the College does not wish to jeopardize the good will that currently exists, the following policy has been adopted to govern fund-raising events within the City of Wooster and Wayne County by College-related individuals, groups and organizations:

a. Except for (b) below and for the formal community relations efforts conducted by the Office of Development, solicitation and sale of goods and services within the City of Wooster and Wayne County by College individuals, groups, or organizations for funds to benefit the College or any aspect of its program is not permitted;

b. Students may sell advertisements for College publications (Voice and Index);

c. College individuals, groups or organizations may solicit for funds in the City of Wooster if the solicitation is under the auspices of non College service groups or charitable organizations (United Way, Heart Fund, etc.) and if the funds raised do not benefit the College or any aspect of its program.

Solicitation of Parents, Alumni and Friends of the College

a. Except for the formal College relations efforts conducted by the Office of Development, solicitation of and sale of goods and services to parents, alumni, and friends of the College by college individuals, groups or organizations for funds to benefit the College or any aspect of its program is not permitted;

b. With permission of the Dean of Students, Voice and Index may offer subscriptions to those publications by parents, alumni and friends of the College.

c. Solicitation of funds from College Trustees, Alumni and friends of the College for personal advantage is a violation of College policy and is subject to disciplinary action.

Solicitation on Campus

On-campus solicitation and sale of goods and services by College individuals, groups or organizations for funds which will benefit the College and its programs is permitted with the following restrictions:

a. There shall be no door-to-door solicitation of any kind in residence halls or other College buildings; b. In accordance with the laws of the State of Ohio, there shall be no lotteries or game of chance;

c. The sale of food products is limited by public health laws and College policy as outlined in the document entitled, "Sales and Consumption of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages of The College of Wooster Campus"; d. All on-campus solicitation or sale of goods and services must be approved by the Secretary of the College or the Dean of Students;

e. While campus individuals and organizations are free to collaborate on event funding or to request funds from bodies constituted for the purpose of providing funding for campus events (Student Government Association, Cultural Events Committee), individuals and organizations are not allowed to issue blanket and/or anonymous appeals on campus for contributions to events.

*Non-College-related individuals, groups and organizations may not solicit for funds or sell goods or services in residence halls. Sale on other portions of the campus may not take place without prior approval of the Secretary of the College or the Dean of Students.
