Professor of Music
Thomas Wood, violin, viola, chamber music, string methods, music
history and literature. Professor of Music,
appointed 1991. B.Mus., M.Mus., University of Cincinnati College
- Conservatory of Music; D.M.A. in Violin Performance, University
of Wisconsin-Madison. Violin with Gerardo Ribeiro, Norman Paulu,
Paul Rolland, and Jens Ellerman. Chamber music with Pro Arte Quartet,
LaSalle Quartet, Young Nam Kim, and Gunther Schuller. Recitals in
the United States and Spain. Former member, New Pittsburgh Chamber
Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of the Pittsburgh Oratorio Society,
Bach Aria Group of Pittsburgh, Erie Philharmonic (Walter Hendl,
Music Director), and Opera Barga (Italy) under direction of Piero
Bellugi. Past artist faculty, summer music festivals and clinics
at University of Wisconsin-Madison; Somerset, Pennsylvania; and
at Allegheny College. Research interests include the violin and
chamber music of Max
Bruch, the consort music of Thomas Baltzar (1631-1663), and
the published writings of violin pedagogue D.C. Dounis. His critical
edition of the Bruch G Minor Violin Concerto was published by N.
Simrock Publishers, London-Hamburg in 1994. First edition of Bruch
Octet published by Simrock in 1998.
