We are a group of Roman Catholic students at the College of Wooster.

 

Newman Catholic Campus Ministry is the Roman Catholic Church's ministry to higher education on secular and private non-Catholic campuses.  It traces its mission and name to John Henry Cardinal Newman, himself a pastor and scholar.  

 

The mission of the Newman program is to gather Catholic students attending non-Catholic colleges in order to strengthen their individual faith, expand their understanding of the Catholic Church, and encourage full participation within the Church.  The Newman program encourages these things through:

·          Participation in a worshipping community of faith

·          Increased understanding of Catholic teaching and tradition through study and discussion

·          Education, action, and reflection on peace and justice issues

·          Leadership development

·          Opportunities for personal development and conscience formation

·          Fostering a connection between faith and life.

 

This mission is accomplished here at the College of Wooster in many different ways. 

 

We attend weekly mass at St. Mary’s Church in Wooster, and we sponsor a mass on campus once a month that is open to everyone who has an interest. 

 

Through our LIFT groups we encourage a deeper understanding of our individual and community faith and our religion.  We are planning a number of trips to experience how other Catholic communities celebrate their faith, including a pilgrimage to Rome over spring break.

 

We are involved in outreach activities, such as Relay for Life and sponsoring a child through CFCA.

 

As a faith community we encourage dialogue on many different levels, including personal, inner-faith, and interfaith.

 

Through all of these things we hope to foster the believe that there is an undeniable and absolutely imperative connection between faith and the way that you live your life.  It is through embracing that fact that we can live a full life.
