Feb. 2, 2004
WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster will receive a
$975,000 federal grant for campus information technology upgrades
as part of the fiscal year 2004 spending bill passed by Congress
and signed by President Bush in late January. U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula
(R-OH) was instrumental in obtaining the grant.
The grant will support a number of projects, including a major
upgrade of the campus network to industry-standard, 100-megabit
speed throughout; integration of the college’s technology
operations into one unit and one location on the fourth floor of
the Burton D. Morgan building; and work on the Wooster Information
Network and instructional technology projects.
Wooster was one of 11 northeast Ohio colleges and universities
to receive funding in the fiscal year 2004 spending bill.
“I appreciate the work of the many individuals in our institutions
of higher learning in Ohio who have worked to develop these projects
and programs on their campuses,” Regula said in a news release
announcing the grants. “The projects will bring new resources
and opportunities for growth to students and communities they serve.”
The College of Wooster is an independent liberal arts college, nationally
recognized for an innovative curriculum that emphasizes independent
learning. Each Wooster senior creates an original research project,
written work, performance or exhibit of artwork, supported one-on-one
by a faculty mentor. Founded in 1866, the college enrolls approximately
1,800 students. |
