WOOSTER, Ohio - More than 100 members of the Wooster,
Orrville, Dalton and Holmes County chambers of commerce got a behind-the-scenes
look at plans for the $18 million renovation of Kauke Hall, The
College of Wooster’s signature building, at a “business
after hours” reception on the Wooster campus Monday evening.
Chamber members enjoyed refreshments on the lawn south of the
building, and heard more about the project from College President
R. Stanton Hales and Stanley C. Gault, emeritus member of the college’s
board of trustees.
Bob Walton, the college’s vice president for finance and
business, Dean of Students Kurt Holmes, and other senior staff led
tours of the building, during which guests saw plans for the restoration
and got a chance to speak with project architects Albert Filoni
and Robert Russ of Pittsburgh-based MacLachlan, Cornelius &
Filoni, and construction manager Ted Bogner of Bogner Construction.
The Kauke project is part of the college’s largest fund-raising
campaign ever, Independent Minds: The Campaign for Wooster. In all,
the campaign seeks to raise $122 million for capital projects, student
scholarships and academic programs by June 30, 2007. To date, the
college has raised $87 million toward that goal.
The College of Wooster is an independent liberal arts college, nationally
recognized for an innovative curriculum that emphasizes independent
learning. Each Wooster senior works one-on-one with a faculty mentor
to create an original research project, written work, performance
or art exhibit. Founded in 1866, the college enrolls approximately
1,800 students. |
