Zachery Williams to Speak at Opening Africana Studies Seminar Sept. 12

WOOSTER, Ohio - Zachery Williams, assistant professor of history at
the University of Akron, will present "What's Masculinity Got to do with
It?" at the first Africana Studies Seminar of the fall semester on Tuesday,
Sept. 12, at The College of Wooster. The lecture, which is free and open
to the public, will be held in Room 119 of Lowry Center (1189 Beall Ave.)
beginning at 11 a.m.
Williams, who specializes in African American and United States
history, is an expert in African Diaspora and its connection to
Pan African Studies. He has also studied the history of black men,
black theology, black nationalism, hip-hop culture, and black public
intellectuals and activists. His forthcoming book, Soul Brother:
Historical Essays in Black Men's Studies, will be published by
Carolina Academic Press.
A graduate of Bowling Green State University, where he earned
his Ph.D. in history, Williams teaches undergraduate- and graduate-level
courses in African American history at Akron. He is also a member
of Akron's Pan African Studies Advisory Committee and executive
director of the Africana Cultures and Policy Studies Institute,
a non-profit policy research organization that examines the link
between African history and cultures and policy analysis. In addition,
he is a Christian minister, who has served in the Baptist and African
Methodist Episcopal denominations.
The Africana Studies Seminars are designed to explore topics that
