WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster will showcase work by 30 area artists when it presents convergence2006 Nov. 7 through Dec. 15 at The College of Wooster Art Museum. The opening reception will be held Friday, Nov. 10, from 7-9 p.m. The exhibition and reception, which are free and open to the public, will be held in the Sussel and Burton D. Morgan Galleries of Ebert Art Center (1220 Beall Ave.).
The juror for the exhibition is Dana Self, the Barbara W. and Bernard E. Bernstein Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, Knoxville Museum of Art in Knoxville, Tenn. Self has written extensively on contemporary art and curated or co-curated more than 85 exhibitions, including one-person shows by Alex Katz, Wayne Thiebaud, Do-Ho Suh, Michael Raedecker, Sharon Louden, Jim Hodges, Michal Rovner, Shahzia Sikander, and Ken Aptekar.
More than 160 works were entered by over 60 artists residing within a 60-mile radius of Wooster. From those entries, 30 works, one by each artist, were selected for the exhibition. The four award winners are Marcella Hackbardt of Gambier, who was chosen for the Wooster Award, and Michelle Droll of Kent, Nancy McEntee of Cleveland, and Susan Squires of Cleveland Heights, each of whom will receive a Juror's Award.
The College of Wooster Art Museum presents temporary, rotating exhibitions from September to May each year in the Ebert Art Center. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. except during College breaks.
