Wooster will host Intnernational Week Nov. 3-11.

WOOSTER, Ohio - International Education Week will take visitors on a virtual tour around the world in just eight days, beginning Nov. 3 and continuing through Nov. 11 at The College of Wooster. The annual celebration provides a range of opportunities for Wooster's international students to share their culture while giving residents of the campus and the community a chance to experience the food, fashion, fun, and more of countries they will likely never visit. "We invite everyone to embrace this opportunity to expand their knowledge and celebrate our diversity," said Sangeeta Asre of the Office of International Student Affairs.

The festivities begin with a delicious Indian meal and a celebration of Diwali - a.k.a. the Festival of Lights - on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. in Mackey Hall of Westminster Church House (353 E. Pine St.). The week concludes with a presentation by Will Okun, a photographer and a teacher at Westside Alternative High School in Chicago who won The New York Times Trip to Africa with Times Columnist Nick Kristoff. The title of the talk is "Breaking Bread with a Warlord: A Journey to Africa with The New York Times," which will be held on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Gault Recital Hall of Scheide Music Center (525 E. University St.).

In between those two events, there will be an International Bazaar, where students, staff and faculty share booths representing their origins and travels throughout the world by displaying artifacts and presenting interactive crafts/activities on Monday, Nov. 5, from 4-6 p.m. in the main lobby of Lowry Center (1189 Beall Ave.). Also on the schedule is the Culture and Talent Show, which features singing, dancing, poetry, artwork, and clothing from around the world on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. in Gault Recital Hall of Scheide Music Center (525 E. University St.). Another popular event is the annual Ambassadors Banquet, which will feature delectable dishes from Pakistan, Myanmar, Jamaica, China, and Ethiopia on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m., at the Wooster Inn (801 E. Wayne Ave.).

In addition, there will be an opportunity to learn the game of Cricket, the world's most talked about international sport, on Friday, Nov. 9, at 5 p.m. in the Armington Physical Education Center (1267 Beall Ave.), followed by a Hindu Puja in honor of the Diwali Indian Festival at 8 p.m. in the formal lounge of Babcock Hall (1315 Beall Ave.).

Students who participated in Medical Humanitarian Internships during the summer through the Lilly Project for the Exploration of Vocation, will share their experiences at a public forum on Monday, Nov. 5, from 7-9:30 p.m. in Room 009 of Severance (Chemistry) Hall (943 College Mall), while students who studied abroad will discuss their experiences at a session titled, "Expand Your View," on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 7-8:30 p.m. in Babcock Lounge. The event will be followed by a Babcock International Living Open House. There will also be an Off-Campus Study Fair for interested students on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 3-6 p.m. in the main lobby of Lowry Center.

Sponsors for International Education Week include the Office of International Student Affairs, the Political Science Department, the International Relations Program, Cultural Area Studies, the International Student Association, South Asia Committee, Wooster Cricket Club, the Lilly Project, Babcock International Living Program, the Ambassadors Program, and the Wooster Inn.
