David Bell and Laura Silverman to present Chamber Music Recital April 5Free public performance to be held in Gault Recital Hall of Scheide Music Center
WOOSTER, Ohio - David Bell and Laura Silverman will present a chamber music recital for clarinet and piano on Saturday, April 5, at 7:30 pm. at The College of Wooster. The performance, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Gault Recital Hall of Scheide Music Center (525 E. University St.). The program will include the Bernstein Sonata, the Brahms Sonata in E flat major and the rarely heard transcription of Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev. Bell will also play "Hommage to Kodaly" by Béla Kovacs for solo clarinet, and Silverman will present "Evening Music" by Wooster composer Jack Gallagher for solo piano. Bell earned degrees at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Northwestern University. He has held principal clarinet positions in the Cleveland Opera and Ballet Orchestras, the Ohio Chamber Orchestra and the Akron Symphony Orchestra. He is also in his 25th season as a member of the Peninsula Music Festival Orchestra. He has performed and recorded with the Chicago and Milwaukee Symphonies, and performed with the Cleveland Orchestra. In addition, he has toured internationally with the Chicago Sinfonietta and the Solaris Wind Quintet. Bell has served on the faculties at Oberlin, Akron, Lawrence University, and Baldwin-Wallace College. He is also a frequent guest teacher, clinician, soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician throughout the United States. Silverman is a member of the music faculty of The College of Wooster as well as director of collaborative piano studies in The School of Music at The University of Akron. She received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Degrees in piano performance at The Cleveland Institute of Music. She was a prizewinner in both The Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition and the J. S. Bach International Piano Competition. She was also selected by the United States Information Agency to represent the USA as an Artistic Ambassador. In addition, she has accompanied concerts in Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, Reinberger Chamber Hall, Severance Hall, Blossom Music Center and elsewhere across the Midwest.
