Recycled Percussion Ready to Rattle the Rafters at Wooster

Recycled Percussion will
perform at Wooster on Aug. 29. |
WOOSTER, Ohio - Recycled Percussion, a four-man pulse-pounding power
group, will rattle the rafters of McGaw Chapel (340 E. University St.)
with its unique brand of "junk rock" on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 8 p.m.
at The College of Wooster. The band, which features a DJ and three
drummers who turn recycled and salvaged items into choreographed percussion,
has become one of the most popular touring shows in the country. Tickets
for the Wooster show are $5 (cash only) and can be purchased at the
door that evening.
Described as "the most ballistic live music show of the decade," the
group plays with plastic buckets, metal tanks, chainsaws, jackhammers,
and numerous other items to create a signature mix of hip-hop and rock
music. They have performed with such notables as LL Cool J, Godsmack,
Staind and They Might Be Giants. They also perform numerous halftime
shows for the NBA and NFL, and have been featured on numerous television
shows, including "Crook and Chase," "Talk Soup," and CBS' "Late Show
with David Letterman."
Backed by "DJ Pharoah," Recycled Percussion has been called "truly
amazing" by Matt Lauer of NBC's "Today," and has been voted the "Best
Major Performing Group" three years in a row by entertainment booking
agencies among colleges and universities. The group has created an
electrifying new show under the direction of band founder Justin Spencer
(a.k.a. the world's fastest extreme drummer). Rounding out the band
are Greg Kassapis and Ryan Vezina.
Set on stage with a massive drum kit, buckets, industrial drums, and
monstrous power tools, what seems to be a novelty act is actually a
masterful musical performance, which has propelled Recycled Percussion
into one of today's most in-demand touring shows. What truly makes
the band unique is its ability to combine the experience and thrill
of a giant rock concert with the rhythmic grooves of hip-hop inspired
vocal and body percussion.
The group's new DVD/CD set, "Recycled Percussion: Live at Allegheny," is
scheduled for worldwide release in October, but can be purchased right
now by visiting www.recycledpercussion.com. It captures the band's
insane live performance and what is considered to be the peak of on-stage
percussion extremity. Wooster is the seventh stop on a national tour
that is slated to make more than 50 stops this fall. The show will
open with a performance by Allison Dupuis, a sophomore at Wooster and
a former national jump rope champion, who will demonstrate her incredible
agility and fitness. For more information about the concert, call 330-263-2559.
