WOOSTER, Ohio è Bill Spratley, executive director of Green Energy Ohio (G.E.O.), in Columbus, will present “Sustainable Energy Puts America to Work" on Thursday, Nov. 30, at The College of Wooster. The lecture, which is part of the “Sustainable Wooster, Sustainable World" series, begins at 7 p.m. in Gault Recital Hall of Scheide Music Center (525 E. University St.). Admission is free and open to the public.

Spratley, an attorney since 1973, has served on the U.S. Secretary of Energy Advisory Boards under Presidents Carter, H.W. Bush, and Clinton. He earned a B.A. with Honors in Political Science from The College of Wooster, and a J.D. from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1973. As Ohio°s first Consumers° Counsel from 1977-1993, his office represented the interests of four million households in more than 1,200 public utility proceedings before state and federal regulators and in the courts. In 1993, Spratley operated a small public utilities consulting firm: William A. Spratley & Associates, Inc. (WASA) in Columbus. During the first nine years of the firm, he engaged in private consulting on a national basis focused full-time on emerging energy policy issues and electric industry competition and commercialization of solar electricity.

In 2001, Spratley became the executive director of G.E.O., and has been involved with efforts to advance Ohio°s renewable energy potential. He is also currently a co-chair in the Ohio Wind Working Group that is designing a plan for commercial wind development in Ohio. In addition, he is the Chairman of SOLAR 2007, the 36th annual National Solar Conference to be held in Cleveland next July.

Green Energy Ohio is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting environmentally and economically sustainable energy policies and practices in Ohio. G.E.O. is supported by grant funding from the Ohio Department Office of Energy Efficiency, the U.S. Department of Energy, foundations in Cleveland, Columbus, and Duke Energy as well as private donations and memberships.

Spratley°s address is co-sponsored by G.E.O. and The College of Wooster°s Greenhouse Program. The “Sustainable Wooster, Sustainable World" lecture series is assembled by a group of students and faculty to increase environmental awareness at the College and in the Wooster community.
