WOOSTER, Ohio — A newly endowed scholarship will honor the memory of John B. Plummer, a long-time employee of The College of Wooster, and support students who promote a welcoming environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

The John Plummer Memorial Scholarship for Contributing to a More Welcoming Campus for LGBT People has been established through the support of Hans P. Johnson ’92 and many other friends and colleagues of Plummer. In all, more than 90 donors contributed a total of just over $30,000 to endow the new scholarship fund. The scholarship will be awarded for the first time this fall, and annually thereafter to a sophomore, junior or senior, regardless of sexual orientation, who promotes a more open and respectful campus environment.

Plummer was a member of the Wooster class of 1964 and served in a variety of capacities in the college’s business office for 36 years. He also worked closely with students as treasurer of Campus Council and as a mentor to the college’s LGBT student community.

The College of Wooster is an independent liberal arts college, nationally recognized for an innovative curriculum that emphasizes mentored independent research. Each Wooster senior works one-on-one with a faculty adviser to create an original research project, written work, performance or art exhibit. Founded in 1866, the college enrolls approximately 1,800 students.
