WOOSTER, Ohio — The College of Wooster has completed the sale of the Wooster Inn Guest House and 3.6 acres of property, located at 1170 Akron Road, to the Montessori School of Wooster. The college will retain ownership of 5.8 acres to the north of the building. The purchase price was $650,000.
The college purchased the property from Newell Rubbermaid Corp. in 2005 for $550,000 and invested approximately $100,000 in improvements including a new driveway and landscaping. It has been used as an annex to the Wooster Inn and for special events.
“I’m pleased with the outcome,” said John W. Sell, professor of economics, who negotiated the deal on behalf of the college. “We were able to reach an agreement that is mutually beneficial to both the college and the Montessori School.”
The college will retain use of the property through the end of July in order to accommodate a number of previously scheduled events and the Montessori School will begin operations in its new home in August.
The College of Wooster is an independent liberal arts college, nationally recognized for an innovative curriculum that emphasizes mentored independent research. Each Wooster senior works one-on-one with a faculty adviser to create an original research project, written work, performance or art exhibit. Founded in 1866, the college enrolls approximately 1,800 students.
