In a shocking turn of events, the Wittenberg Tiger has
surged to a 1,000-vote lead as the Mascot Face-Off enters its final 48 hours. It’s the first time the
portly tabby has managed to put so much daylight between himself and Wooster’s
Fighting Scot since the competition began 17 days ago.
The reversal of fortune was made more galling by the fact
that it came on the heels of a surprise endorsement of the Tiger by Wooster
alum Bob Dyer, who has sent two children to Wittenberg.
Appearing in a video posted to the Mascot Face-Off website
on Tuesday, Dyer made disparaging comments about bagpipe music and kilts,
before tearing off his Wooster letter jacket to reveal a red Witt shirt
beneath.
Kurt Holmes, Wooster’s dean of students, could not let
Dyer’s action go unchallenged. His devastating response was posted to the
Face-Off site this afternoon.
Final results of the Face-Off will be announced during the
Wooster-Wittenberg football game on Saturday, Nov. 14. Until then, polls remain
open, and partisans of the two mascots can vote once a day from any given IP
address.
