WOOSTER, Ohio — The College of Wooster Dance Company will present its annual Stage Door Fall Concert this weekend (Nov. 19-20) at 8:15 p.m. in the round at Freedlander Theatre (329 E. University St.).
The performance will showcase original works by 11 student choreographers: Mara Bartlett-Asenjo, Nana Boamah-Acheampong, Lindsay Phillips, Maria Cox, Adriana Maxton, Ellie Lawrence, Owen Reynolds, Darius Dixon, Aaron Yi, and Cathy Trainor, as well as a dance installation by Alyssa Lee Wilmot, visiting assistant professor of dance at Wooster.
“This performance will give our student choreographers an opportunity to see their artistic visions actualized,” said Wilmot, a 2000 College of Wooster graduate. “It will also give our dancers a chance to perform in front of a receptive audience, and for the audience to be exposed to new contemporary dance.”
Tickets are $9 for general admission and $6 for students and senior citizens. College of Wooster students, faculty, and staff are admitted free, but must pick up a complimentary ticket at the box office ahead of time to reserve a seat.
“There are many different things that dance can communicate, and the pieces in this concert express that” said Wilmot. “Dance can tell a story, be an outlet for personal expression, imitate life, investigate the elements of dance (space, time, force), and express abstract concepts. The variety of dances found within our fall concert encompasses all of these aspects and more.”
To purchase tickets, visit the Freedlander Box Office or call 330-263-2241 for more information.
