March Madness makes its way to The College of Wooster this weekend, and basketball fans are invited to join the fun as the Scots host first- and second-round games of the NCAA Division III Tournament, beginning tonight in Timken Gymnasium.
The first 1,000 fans dressed in black and/or gold will receive a free “Scot” towel at Friday night’s game (7:30 p.m.) with Benedictine. (The other game features Bethany and Manchester at 5:30 p.m.). In addition, the first 500 College of Wooster students will receive complimentary Vegas-Gold t-shirts with a Rubik’s Cube theme: “Don’t Just Play Hard. Play Smart.” There will also be a Rubik’s Cube competition at halftime — inspired by several members of the team, who carry Rubik’s Cubes with them in their travel bags and solve them on bus trips to away games and other down times during the season.
Wooster, which is 26-2 and is making its 19th NCAA Tournament appearance in the past 21 years, boasts the most successful basketball program (.852 winning percentage) of any team in the nation since 2000, including Duke (.838) and Kansas (.822).
Leading up to Friday’s doubleheader, there will be activities all afternoon in Lowry Center. The Scot Dogs cart will provide free hot dogs from noon to 5 p.m. There will also be two Double Shot electronic hoops games set up in the Pit for those who want to test their skill.
Tickets are $6 for adults and senior citizens, and $3 for students. Tickets for College of Wooster students are free, thanks to the generous support of the President's Office. The box office opens at 4 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday. For additional information, call 330-263-2145.
