WOOSTER, Ohio — The College of Wooster’s Center for Entrepreneurship (C4E) will determine the winners of the third annual Idea Competition “Pitch-Off” on Friday, Dec. 2, from 4-6 p.m. in Lean Lecture Room of Wishart Hall (303 E. University St.). A total of 19 finalists, chosen from dozens of applicants, will have three minutes to make their pitch. After each pitch, students will be subjected to a barrage of questions during a 60-second feedback session. The event is free and open to the public.
The finalists are seniors Kipaya Kapiga, Kemal Ramic, and Shitong Zhan, sophomores Rita Frost, Brenna Fujimoto, Christine Goglia, Rakib Islam, Shuyuan Liu, Margaret Olson, Thulan Pham, Stephanie Reed, Usman Shabbir, Sara Tebeau, and Wyatt Smith, and first-year students Divvya Haralalka, Dustin Miller, Bianca Rocco, Julius Shirima, and Dempsey Simonis. These students applied in either or all of the three categories: (1) Campus, (2) Social Entrepreneurship, and (3) General. Submissions ranged from smartphone applications and proposals for new businesses in downtown Wooster to a new academy in Tanzania and an international scouting process to discover soccer players in developing nations.
In addition to cash prizes, the winners of the pitch off will be offered mentoring and networking from professors and successful entrepreneurs from the community in an effort to test the viability of their ideas.
The Center for Entrepreneurship engages in and organizes various programs and events to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship among students and community members. C4E develops student initiatives by cultivating ideas, providing resources for growth, research, legal advice, and feasibility assessment. These initiatives are then reviewed by selected faculty, staff, and other successful entrepreneurs who provide helpful guidance and feedback. The organization also hosts a dynamic speaker series; coordinates campus-wide idea competitions; sponsors student trips to nationwide entrepreneurial and business conferences; and coordinates a large-scale internship program that connects students with expanding businesses to provide real-world learning experiences.
