WOOSTER, Ohio — The College of Wooster will present the second annual “Wooster Jam” at the Wayne County Fairgrounds April 20-21. The two-day multimedia celebration of exhibited and performed art and music runs from 4 p.m. to midnight on Friday and noon to midnight on Saturday. The festival, which includes the Wooster Ethnic Fair, is free and open to the public with free shuttles for students to and from campus.

Organized by Wooster’s Center for Entrepreneurship, the event will celebrate and showcase the richness, diversity, and quality of artists associated with the college and the community. The Jam was conceived by James Levin, director of Wooster’s Center of Entrepreneurship, founding director of Cleveland Public Theatre, and founder and artistic director of the highly acclaimed IngenuityFest, which takes place each year in downtown Cleveland.

Wooster Jam 2012 welcomes artists of all backgrounds, from ensemble and solo music performers to rock bands, dancers, and theatrical artists, as well as video and film artists, photographers, jugglers, buskers, and magicians. The jam will also feature an intercollegiate a capella competition showcasing singers from colleges and universities across the state. Wooster’s renowned a capella group, Round of Monkeys, will be among the participants in the competition, which has a grand prize of $1,000. All artists and a capella groups are encouraged to apply online by March 2.

The Wayne Center for the Arts, the 120 Artists CoOp (represented by Nancy Franck and Cindy Bethel), and Mosaic Connection (Blaine Budd and Melody Kirby) along with TOCA (Throng of Christian Artists) are encouraging all artists and performers to become involved.

Wooster Jam 2012 will also feature food and beverages, and is a refreshing weekend escape from the daily grind as well as an inventive re-use of the historic fairgrounds, according to Camille Schwartz, one of the student organizers. “The vision of the Jam is to showcase the best music, theatre, and dance on campus and in the greater Wayne County community,” she said. “A portion of the proceeds will benefit the People to People Ministries.”
